Dr. Lee Publishes Book on Foot and Ankle Surgery Complications

Written by nation’s top foot and ankle surgeons, new book aims to improve patient outcomes after surgeries

(Clive, Iowa) – There are dozens of academic books on foot and ankle surgery. But only one focuses solely on complications that can arise after these surgeries. “Complications in Foot and Ankle Surgery,” published by Des Moines podiatric foot and ankle surgeon Dr. Michael Lee, was created to help surgeons manage the effects of these complications.

“Every surgeon encounters complications from surgery at some point,” Dr. Lee explains. “What sets the best surgeons apart is how they manage those complications. We wanted to create a book that would help foot and ankle surgeons catch complications early, minimize their impact and get patients back on track.”

The book covers five thematic sections — perioperative, forefoot, first ray, midfoot/hindfoot and ankle. Each chapter details:
• The development and evolution of both major and minor complications
• The evaluation and decision-making involved
• The best surgical management techniques for each

More than 30 top foot and ankle surgeons from across the country contributed to the book. Dr. Lee, along with Akron, Ohio based foot and ankle surgeon Dr. Jordan Grossman, edited all submissions. The book was published through the Springer International Publishing. Copies are available for purchase at springer.com.
