Benjamin Bjerke, MD, MS, is a fellowship-trained and board-certified spine surgeon at Capital Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, PC, currently seeing patients at the office in Clive, Iowa. 

Dr. Bjerke received his Bachelor of Science in chemistry from the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wisconsin, in 2002. He went on to earn a Master of Science in organic chemistry from the UCLA Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry in Los Angeles, California, in 2004. Finally, Dr. Bjerke returned to school for his medical doctorate, graduating from Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons in New York City in 2009. 

Soon after graduation, Dr. Bjerke completed an orthopedic surgery internship at New York Medical College in New York City before becoming a resident physician in orthopedic surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery, also located in New York City. He later relocated to Rochester, Minnesota, for a combined neurosurgery and orthopedic surgery spine fellowship.

Dr. Bjerke performs numerous surgical and minimally invasive procedures at Capital Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, PC, to treat hip injuries, shoulder injuries, and degenerative conditions like cervical radiculopathy and spinal stenosis. He is trained in arthroscopic surgery, lumbar microdiscectomy surgery, and other cutting-edge surgical techniques.

Dr. Bjerke specializes in minimally invasive and motion-preserving spine surgery. He has also penned numerous articles published in esteemed medical journals, including The Spine Journal and the Journal of Spinal Disorders and Techniques.
